Dumplings
(Hong Kong, Fruit Chan, photo: Christopher Doyle, 90 minutes full version):
Ex-actress Mrs. Li (Miriam Yeung) is married to a cheater husband (Tony Leung
Ka-Fai)
and she worries about being too old and worn to be attractive to anyone. She
visits the
chinese black magic and abortionist woman Mei (very charismatically played
by Bai Ling.
Mrs. Li wants to rejuvenate and
to achieve this she eats very special Dumplings (kött i
degknyten) made of dead aborted child foetuses, and initially she feels both
younger
and sexier ... initially that is.
Artmovie director Fruit Chan surprises with a very exciting and disgusting
drama horror,
and maybe even as good as the hailed episode "Going Home" from the
Horror Anthology
"Three" by Peter Ho. But, this horror isn't too far away from the
truth as it's known, or
not, that people from the ruling elite (as a certain president couple) are
visiting exclusive
institutions for the very rich to get rejuvenation skin treatments with foetus
stuff.
Plastic surgery and foetus skin, it's a sick world we live in.
