Tokyo Godfathers (Tokyo Goddofazazu, 2003)

Nordic Sony Pictures anime 9 disc collection DVD

Social drama and a haunting christmas fairytale and with a .... YES, for once i craved it as this lovely story required a ...
Happy End. But do not fear, this marvel of a film from anime genius Satoshi Kon is absolutely Non-Syrupy.
It starts gloomy enough on christmas day when we get to meet our "heroes", a trio of homeless shabby drifters who
are living on the streets: Ms. Hana or Uncle Bag, the transsexual, Uncle Gin or old geezer and the teenage girl Miyuki.
They are dirty and grumpy and bickers a lot and don't seem loveable at all, but soon we start to love them with all
their faults and deficiencies. Hungry, dirty and poor.

In a garbage heap they find an abandoned baby and Ms. Hana is overjoyed feeling like the mother she always wanted
to be, but Uncle Gin talks sense into her ... "We are three good-for-nothing bums who can't even look after ourselves"
and the trio decides to find the child's mother, wherever she can be in the megacity of Tokyo. Adventures follow.

The snow is falling, beautifully animated, and we get to follow this gloomy trio through the streets of Tokyo. This winter
saga starts out as a socio-drama and then turns into a crime story and also with some action-adventure scenes.
But not too much, just enough of everything in a perfect balance ... and with a much deserved happy ending for the
friends. 2 of the greatest characters ever seen in an anime movie - Gin and Hana.
A Fairy tale and a love story. An unforgettable masterpiece and surely on my all time Anime Top Ten list.

Anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1, japanese audio DTS 5.1 or 5.1 with english or swedish subtitles (and an assortment of
other subs). Extras only some trailers
