Beautiful Ania Pieroni can be seen
in the first killing of the movie and she may be
better known for playing Mater Lachrymarum (The Mother of Tears) in
"Inferno".
She was the one with the cat in the music conservatory, one of my favourite
scenes ever from Dario Argento, and with the great music of Verdi too
Masterful
and Violent giallo shot exquisitely by cinematographer Luciano Tovoli
Dario Argento's alter ego (?) the writer of violent
and bloody crime novels, Peter
Neal (Anthony Franciosa) arrives to Rome on a publicity trip for his
new book.
Soon Rome is plagued by violent killings by a serial killer and the
crimes obviously
are inspired by the fictive crimes committed in his books, and the killer
seems to
be close to Neal.
This great giallo has some classic and gruesome scenes
as: The Double murder
after the long dolly shot, the Dobermann attack, Eva Robins with her
red shoe
and the spraypainting of the wall by Veronica Lario.
From the time when the visual genius of Dario Argento still possessed
it's full power.

My perception of what watching film would be was smashed
into smithereens
after watching Suspiria for the first time in 1978. I had never seen
anything like it.
Then in the 1980's the hunt was on, the hunt for
uncut Argento movies on VHS
all over Europe and in the US. In a rental store in Athens, Greece,
i bought Opera
(as Terror at the Opera) in 1989. Yes, it was very overpriced but everyone
of my
friends watching it was in awe.
When visiting Brussels in 1988 or so, I bought Tenebrae from another
rental store
and I watched it also in awe even though the film was dubbed into french
and
without any english subtitles.
Today no films are cut in Sweden but back then Sweden had one of the
worlds
most strict Film Censoring (when released in the US as "Unsane"
it was cut by
some 20 minutes).

Trailer and a Biography Argento
Funny to hear Daria Nicolodi lamenting that the beautiful
Veronica
Lario married "That Scoundrel" Berlusconi, and Dario believed
that Tenebrae was cut to pieces also in Italy due to the fact that
Veronica Lario died so spectacular and Berlusconi's influence
