Siren (1982) - Amateur Night - V/H/S (2012)

Left: US Universal DVD 2016 edition; Right: UK Momentum Pictures 2013 DVD edition

Siren (2016) Director: Gregg Bishop

Yes, yes, i know, this is a low-budget indie horror, shot in just 18 days, and it may be slightly trashy .... BUT that's the point!
That's why it doesn't follow any of the rules and why it's so deliriously enjoyable. Great fun it is.
A Creature horror about a mythical beast, The Siren, here a shape-shifter who murders and eats men, after singing to them.
But, it's also a love story of some deranged sort ... who knew that Sirens mates for life?

Hannah Fierman goes full-throttle in the role as the Siren and her make-up looks great. A great script and an earlier short film
from 2012 - Amateur Night, with Fierman as Lily, is the basis for Siren. The short was featured in the 2012 anthology V/H/S.
- See more below about Amateur Night and V/H/S.

As i've written here many times before i'm a sucker for horror films based on myths about sirens and mermaids, and i really liked
the Serbian film Mamula/Nymph, or the 2014 Spring, Curtis Harrington's 1961 Night Tide with Dennis Hopper,
and the 2015 Polish Corki dancingu i haven't seen yet but i guess it's interesting at least. Let's not forget Amando de Ossorio's
Las Garras de Lorelei about the Siren at her cliff in the river Rhine. Well, i like creature horrors in general, as the mythical gorgon
Medusa and the very, very obscure Greek film Medousa from 1998 and the ditto animated Argentinian 2004 short Gorgonas.

Hannah Fierman has that slightly odd look with the eyes that could be disturbing and give you the shivers

In the films intro a strange man with a cowboy hat enters a church where someone or something has slaughtered a bunch of
people. He's Mr. Nyx (Justin Welborn) and he's not a CSI staff, he's looking for supernatural things for his nightclub.

Then, another place, another time. Jonah (Chase Williamson) is about to marry and his brother and 2 best friends are taking
him to a bachelor party at a strip club. They drink a lot and pop some mushrooms and then they follow a man who will guide
them to a place with really hot girls. A strange stripclub with an even stranger audience, and the owner Mr. Nyx promises
Jonah something very special, Lily. Locked in a room with a window she sings for him and he experiences sensual sensations
beyond everything he has earlier known. However, he worries about Lily and decides to free her from her prison cell ....

" I like You"

Hot Bestial Sex

Ha, ha, lucky guy, or not. I just love the funny ending and it breaks the rules of how a normal genre film would end.
This film is made on a shoestring budget but luckily Hannah Fierman has these unusual eyes that makes the cheap make-up
to work. Is she doomed to forever play the role of some beast in the future?

This film is feature film version of the short film Amateur Night from the 2012 horror anthology V/H/S and Hannah Fierman
also played the role of Lily there. Amateur Night was the crowd favorite in that collection.
This US DVD in anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1 with english audio 5.1 and english subs. Bare bones edition, no extras

V/H/S (2012) The Amateur Night short Director: David Bruckner

This 2012 horror anthology got a lot of positive reviews and was followed by sequels. V/H/S had 5 different story short films and
a frame story presenting them, with a bunch of unlikeable creeps breaking into a villa with a dead man in a room with monitors
and a lot of VHS tapes lying around. These shitty fuckers has to watch the tapes to find the right one, and we get to see 5 short
films of varying quality and 3 of them were not that good but 2 of them were great, and the first one - Amateur Night the best.

1. Amateur Night direction: David Bruckner, 2. Second Honeymoon direction: Ti West, 3. Tuesday the 17th direction: Glenn
McQuaid, 4. The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily when She was Young, 5. 10/31/98 direction: Radio Silence

LILY - "I LIKE YOU"

Amateur Night

Three annoying and misogynistic guys (are laughing annoyingly but are luckily about to die) are having a night out drinking at a
bar, and they pick up 2 girls, Lisa and Lily, taking them to a hotel room. Shane and Patrick are 2 very unlikeable dudes and Clint
the nice guy. When Shane is having sex with Lily he quickly realizes that Lily are in complete control and that she's not human.

This short was unforgettable due to the GREAT Hannah Fierman, HER EYES, to the direction and a fine story, and it was well
deserved a longer version in the 2016 Siren. Also, the 10/31/98 VHS short about a lost Halloween party and a demon was good

V/H/S was presented by UK Momentum Pictures in anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1 and with english audio DD 5.1 or 2.0 with
english subtitles, region 2. Extras: Alternative ending, trailer, Behind the scenes, Helen Rogers interview, Simon Barrett
interview and outtakes from Tuesday the 17th
