Nightmare Symphony (The Peacock's Tale, 2021)

US Reel Gore Releasing 2021 Blu-ray edition - region all

B-grade horror homage to the great Lucio Fulci and the horror maestro's late Cat in the Brain/Nightmare Concert.
"Nightmare Symphony" is sort of a re-make of the Fulci film but also slightly resembles Peter Strickland's 2012
"Berberian Sound Studio" where a UK sound technician goes to Italy to work on a horror film production.
In this film an american director and actor, Frank (Frank LaLoggia) goes to Kosovo to finish his latest film.

The film starts with a vicious and gory murder in the style of "The New York Ripper" when a perp with white
gloves and wearing a Peacock bird mask slashes up a nude beautiful woman, Catherine (Antonella Salvucci)
with a razor. A nasty murder but filmed in a flat and unsuspenseful way far from the way Fulci made it.
Then the film has some gory killings happening and most of the film crew (and some others) are killed off in
brutal ways. The special effects looks pretty good and were made without CGI (or much of it anyway) and the
Peacock mask looked cool. OK, it's a Neo-Giallo too i guess.

But, what made this film rise to be considered an OK watch was, for me that is .... was the interesting location
where the film took place, and i think this was Pristina, Kosovo and with some Kosovan actors this gave the
film some strange or perhaps interesting atmosphere. Strange is often Good to Me.
Frank arrives by air to Pristina and hops on a train, an empty train and without a platform to board from, and
with a weird family sitting next to him. In the city he moves into an apartment and is harassed by a man in the
street, David (Halil Budakova) who wants to act in Frank's films. He's also harassed by a drunk neighbour
and there's a mystery woman who stalks him (Merita Budakova). Who the hell is she ? We never get to know
this, but she meets a gory end as almost anyone else in this movie.

Frank spends a lot of time with editor Isabella (Antonella Salvucci in a dual role) in the editing room. He is
given the bad news that his actress Catherine has been murdered and that a serial killer is on the loose.
He meets his scriptwriter Antonio (Antonio Tentori, co-writer) who's furious that Frank has changed his story,
and he meets his producer Fernando (Edi Hasan Lushi) that tells Frank he has only one week to finish the
film. Fernando has a tattooed girlfriend Debbie (Poison Rouge) and she's the only likeable person in the film,
as she's friendly and positive).
