Disc 1 Film 1 - The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (Das Testament das Dr. Mabuse) 1962
Direction: Werner Klingler - Re-Make of the 1932 film widescreen 1.66:1 black & white
Production: West Germany. with Gert Froebe, Senta Berger, Wolfgang Preiss

There are series of robberies and police inspector Lohmann (Gert Fröbe) suspects
that the supervillain Dr. Mabuse (Wolfgang Preiss) is the brain behind them. But how
could he be, as he's perfectly locked up in his cell at the mental asylum, and besides
that being crazy as a loon ?

Enjoyable Crime-Thriller and felt like one of the better Edgar Wallace Krimi films
Original German audio track LPCM with optional English dub track and with English
subtitles. Audio commentary by David Kalat and with introduction by Tim Lucas

Disc 1 Film 2 - Scotland Yard Hunts Dr. Mabuse (Scotland Yard jagt Dr.
Mabuse)
1963. Direction: Paul May, 4:3 fullscreen ratio, black & white
Production: West Germany. with Werner Peters, Klaus Kinski, Peter Van
Eyck, Walter Rilla

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse was partly destroyed at the end of the preceding
film. It's hard to decipher but seems to tell about a new series of crimes to be
committed. A Scientist, Dr. Lawrence, has invented a machine capable of total
mind control and "The New Mabuse" steals it.

British Major Bill Tern (Peter Van Eyck) and Scotland Yard inspector Rank (Klaus
Kinski) helps the german police inspector Vulpius (Werner Peters) when the criminals
move their bussiness to London.

Quite entertaining and snappy, OK!

Disc 2 Film 1 - The Death Ray of Dr. Mabuse (Die Todesstrahlen des
Dr. Mabuse)
1964 Direction: Hugo Fregonese 4:3 fullscreen ratio black &
white, Co-production: West Germany-Italy-France-UK
with Peter Van Eyck, Leo Genn, Yvonne Furneaux, Rica Diolina

Very entertaining and delightfully trashy Agent action, and the last Dr. Mabuse film
Probably inspired by the Scuba action scenes in James Bond movie Thunderball, even
though this may be unclear. "The New Mabuse" from the preceding film has escaped
his asylum and to the island of Malta. That's were Professor Larsen has created a
Death Ray and the one who controls it will rule the world.

British Major Anders (Peter Van Eyck) goes there too to protect the Professor and
possibly to get the machine for the UK. So, Professor Larsen and his niece Gilda
(Yvonne Furneaux) stands against the UK and "Mabuses" Army of Frogmen

Original German audio track LPCM with optional English dub track and with English
subtitles. Audio commentary by David Kalat and with introduction by Tim Lucas
(14 minutes). The Italian version of the film and it's 17 minutes longer

Disc 3 - The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse (Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse) 1960
Direction and co-script: Fritz Lang widescreen 1.66:1 black & white
Co-production: West Germany - France - Italy
with Gert Froebe, Peter Van Eyck, Dawn Addams, Werner Peters, Wolfgang Preiss

The Return of Fritz Lang and the one film in this 6 film collection he directed. And
It's easily the best of them. A Great Crime Thriller and Fritz Lang knew his stuff.
This was Fritz Lang's last film as his eyesight got steadily worse.

Gert Fröbe plays police inspector Kras and he's called by a man, Cornelius, who
says he's a medium and has seen in a vision a murder being committed. And a
murder has really been committed when a killer (Howard Vernon) from the back of
a car shoots a man with a steel needle to the head.
The murder resembles one which Dr. Mabuse once planned.

The victim was a reporter and had a connection to the Luxor Hotel, and actually
there has been a series of deaths and murders also with such a connection.
A woman staying at the hotel (Dawn Addams) tries to commit suicide by jumping
from a window but is saved by a millionaire american, Travers (Peter Van Eyck).
Werner Peters plays an insurance salesman that knows somehing about the Hotel.

(12 minutes). Interview with Wolfgang Preiss (16 minutes, 2002),
Alternate ending and a US trailer

Disc 4 Film 1 - The Return of Dr. Mabuse (Im Stahlnetz des Dr. Mabuse) 1961
Direction: Harold Reinl widescreen 1.66:1 black & white
Co-production: West Germany - France - Italy. with Gert Fröbe, Daliah Lavi,
Lex Barker, Wolfgang Preiss

Entertaining thriller with a great Gert Froebe as police inspector Lohmann
and a direct follow-up to Fritz Lang's The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse.

Lohmann is happily preparing his long due fishing vacation, but then the
telephone rings and no vacation for him. An Interpol agent has been
murdered carrying evidence against the Chicago Mafia.
Lohmann investigates and a female journalist, Maria Sabrehm (Daliah
Lavi) and american Joe Como (Lex Barker) are interested too.

There is a series of killings, sounds familiar after watching the Mabuse
films, and it seems as Dr. Mabuse is alive after all and has dealings with
the Chicago crime syndicate. He wants to sell them a mind control drug
to, hmmmm ..., yes, to gain power and to rule the world. This ghost of
Dr. Mabuse for sure is persistent through this film series.

Original German audio track LPCM with optional English dub track and
with English subtitles. Audio commentary by David Kalat and with
introduction by Tim Lucas (9 minutes).

Daliah Lavi (see below)

Lavi from Mario Bava's 1963 "La frusta e il corpo" (The Whip and the Body)

Note: When presenting Daliah Lavi in the audio commentary her, must be,
best film actress performance wasn't mentioned - her amazing role in drama
Il Demonio as a harrassed and mentally unstable village girl
Direction & co-script: Brunello Rondi, production: Italy 1963

Here she did the famous possessed spider walk that inspired William
Friedkin in The Exorcist (even though Linda Blair's scene was cut from
most prints)

Disc 4 Film 2 - The Invisible Dr. Mabuse (Die unsichtsbaren Krallen des
Dr. Mabuse)
Direction: Harald Reinl widescreen 1.66:1 black & white
Co-production: West Germany - France - Italy. with Lex Barker, Karin Dor,
Werner Peters, Wolfgang Preiss

Another very entertaining Mabuse movie from Harold Reinl with lots of fun
thriller action. What's Enterprise X and who's Bobo the Clown ?

Theatre or Cabaret dancer Liane Martin (Karin Dor) performs at the Berlin
Metropol theatre and she's an invisible admirer who's watching her from one
of the boxes. But there are criminal activities going on in the basement with a
crime gang led by Mabuse and a US agent has been murdered, and another
US agent has been brought in to investigate, Joe Como (Lex Barker).

Professor Erasmus has created a gadget, Enterprise X, which makes materia
(including humans) being invisible. Hmm ... I wonder who would like to have
an invention like that to rule the world ?
Mabuse, The Ghost of Mabuse or The New Mabuse perhaps.

with English subtitles. Audio commentary by David Kalat and with
introduction by Tim Lucas (6 minutes)
