Wendell Corey is great as the bespectacled Leon Poole, determined to
revenge the death of his wife. He's mild-mannered
but scary, a psychopatic killer. After being involved in a robbery,
an inside job as a bank clerk, his wife was shot by the
police raiding his apartment, and the police detective who shot her
(by accident) was Sam Wagner (Joseph Cotten).
Sentenced to jail Leon Poole wants revenge on Sam, and on Sam's wife
Lila (Rhonda Fleming) .... An eye for an eye.
Leon behaves good in prison, the perfect inmate, and
he's unwisely moved to an open prison. As a trustee prisoner he
can go shopping with the guards in the nearest town, and then he murders
one of them and escapes. A Dragnet is on
for Leon who's on a killing spree and slowly, slowly approaches the
big city and the Wagner family.
