Inferno Rosso: Joe D'Amato on
the Road of Excess
Aristide Massaccesi AKA Joe D'Amato - A Documentary
showed at the Venice
Film Festival. Made by Manlio Gomarasca and Massimiliano Zanin and with
an
introduction by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Finally this outlaw legendary filmmaker gets his dues.
Aristide Massaccesi the master cinematographer, the wild horror director
who
pushed the boundaries of the genre far into the yet unknown. and finally
the
maker og crisp looking pornography.
He's one of my favourite filmmakers and his 1979
Buio Omega (Beyond the
Darkness) is one of the best horror movies ever made.
Other delightfully outrageous films and favourites of mine from D'Amato
are :
1977 Emanuelle in America, 1977 Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (both
with
sexploitation icon Laura Gemser), 1979 Immagino di un Convento (Images
in
a Convent) and the 1982 Caligula 2-The Untold Story.
The 72 minute documentary features discussions about
Joe with i.a. Francesca
Massaccesi (daughter of Joe), Jess Franco R.I.P., Tinto Brass R.I.P.,
Ruggero
Deodato R.I.P., Luigi Montefiore, Lamberto Bava, Eli Roth, Michele Soavi,
