Terror / Satan's Slave (1976 and 1978)

US BCI Deimos DVD edition - region 1

Terror (1978) Direction: Norman J. Warren, anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1, mono

Yes! Norman J. Warren, The British Horror exploitation film maestro shows us that brits also could make a very entertaining
horror film with well executed gore scenes, and I loved this underrated and probably obscure film - Terror.
Normally i'm not a big fan of boring and wooden British snore fests as Hammer et. al. with some exceptions as "The Witchfinder
General", "The Wicker Man" and maybe a couple more.
This film "Terror" may be a somewhat trashy B horror Black Magic slasher, perhaps influenced by "Suspiria", but it's delightfully
absurd and chaotic and with, for a British 1970's film, very well made Gore. It also has a visual style and a loud soundtrack.

In the intro we get to see a 17th century witch being burned at the stake and with the standard threat of a curse being shouted
at her executor (and we've seen this black magic movie ingredient many times before). But, what we look at is nothing but a movie
and the director and owner of the Film Studio, James Garrick (John Nolan) is celebrating his new finished film with a party in his
old 17th century house (the same house as in "Satan's Slave").
The attractive Carol (Glynis Barber) dies the Slasher-Death and James cousin Ann (Carolyn Courage) is suspected for the murder.

Sleaze and Gore and scenes inspired by "Suspiria" and Argento with blood dripping down from the ceiling on red-haired Vivian,
a film studio explodes and a man gets guillotined by a window (see pic above) 2 years before Daria Nicolodi met the same fate in
Argento's "Inferno" (Warren watched Argento who then watched Warren?).
Also, posters in the film showcases Christina Lindberg in Bo A. Vibenius "Thriller". This in 1978 when "Thriller" was shown in
a double-bill with "Satan's Slave" in England.

Satan's Slave (1976) Direction: Norman J. Warren, anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1, mono

Black Magic Horror where Catherine (Candace Glendenning) visits her uncle Alexander (Michael Gough) in his old mansion and
where she meets diciples of Satan. Extra: Three cool grindhouse trailers for "Point of Terror" (a very obscure film with Dyanne
Ilsa Thorne, Nightmare in a Damaged Brain and for "Beyond the Door"
