Shergill and Ranaut

Text below written 2015-09-30

I've never seen the amazing Bollywood Star Kangana Ranaut being anything but Good to Great in her roles, this
beautiful ex-model that started her Bollywood career with a Bang, her role in the gangster melodrama .... Gangster
in 2006. Sure, she's been in some uninteresting Fluff as Fashion and Once upon a time in Mumbai but after amazing
performances in both Queen and Revolver Rani in 2014 she's one of the greatest Female Stars at the moment.
I love her and in this sequel (i haven't seen the precursor from 2011), a light-hearted comedy that sometimes feels a
bit too silly, it still works because of her charisma and FANTASTIC dual role of Tanu and Datto.

I hadn't heard anything about the film before seeing it and i must confess that when the credits were rolling i was
looking for the name of this sensational new Bollywood actress, then i saw and understood .... Kangana as Tanu
and Datto. Ha, ha, ha, how is it possible, i was absolutely sure that there were 2 different actresses in the roles.
I even found the gag that people mistook Datto as Tanu as a bit far-fetched, that's how great Kangana was.

Datto-Kusum

Tanu

After a really weird start in a London Mental Hospital (WTF?) the marriage between Tanu and Manu is going
to pieces and Tanu returns to India and her hometown of Kanpur.
Soon Manu follows and at a medicine cardiac-related speach in Delhi (the university) he sees a young athletic
student training outside and in the Bollywood Masala style he falls in love directly and starts to stalk the girl.
She resembles his soon to be ex-wife and her name is Datto/Kusum and she could be his daughter age-wise.
With him in his amorous efforts is his brother Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal, first time i've seen this fine actor in a
farcical role). Manoj "Manu" Sharma is played by R. Madhavan (that was so good in horror-comedy 13 B).

Manu proposes to Datto and soon there's going to be a wedding - maybe. Tanu has got her suitors too, the
old boyfriend Raja Awasthi (Jimmy Shergill) and the odd law student Chintu (a funny Mohammad Zeeshan
Ayyab). There's Tanu's and Manu's friends Payal (Swara Bhaskar) and Jassi (Eijaz Khan) and they're just
great in their supporting roles too. There's the parents and there's Datto's brother (Rahul Sanklya) and all of
them are good. Something NOT working that great were the unfunny opening in London and the Pappi
university farcical scene, both scenes could easily have been omitted.
Kangana - I Love You, and i want to see Revolver Rani 2 soon

anamorphic widescreen 5.1 or 2.0 hindi with english subtitles, song and dance number with english subtitles

The First film "Tanu Weds Manu" was made in 2011 and directed by the same director Aanand Rai and with Kangana
Ranaut and Madhavan in it
. I didn't like that one as much as i do this though. I watched it on Netflix in September 2020
and the character of Tanuja Trivedi (Kangana) was more of a slightly unlikeable and almost sociopathic person in this.
She really enjoyed tormenting the Madhavan role Manu Sharma, and he also seemed slightly mentally deranged, taking
all of her abuse like a cuckold, bending his knee and taking it up his .... A very strange romantic comedy for sure, and
more of a S&M movie with Kangana as the dominatrix and Madhavan as the willing victim.

No one was likeable in this film (Deepak Dobriyal's brother of Manu had a too small part to count) but maybe the
armed gangster Raja (Jimmy Shergill) who threatens the "charming perverted" couple was the most normal one ?
Maybe poor scriptwriting is to blame and the sequel was much better. This could be the worst Kangana Ranaut film i've
seen yet and maybe even the fluffy fluff film Fashion was better?

When writing this in late September 2020 a huge drug and murder scandal is rocking Bollywood and Kangana Ranaut
is the one who spoke out about the coke habits of the biggest stars and starting the probing into this affair
