Overheard (Sit ting fung wan) 2009 Direction and script: Alan Mak & Felix Chong

A great crime-thriller with great actors and the first part of what would be a trilogy from the director/writer duo Alan Mak and
Felix Chong, the duo behind the Infernal Affairs trilogy. 2009 "Overheard" was a huge hit and a Hong Kong stock market and
surveillance thriller and the first of three films where Daniel Wu plays a surveillance expert.

The Hong Kong Police are bugging the office of a financial company suspected of insider trading and listening to everything
the three major shareholders says. Some of the police are Gene (Louis Koo), Max (Daniel Wu), Johnny (Lau Ching Wan) and
Kelvin (Alex Fong). Gene needs money for hospital treatment of his daughter and one day when he and Max are listening
they overhears one of the suspects (Mr. Low) talk about a stock that will skyrocket, and as Gene is desperate for money he
and Max decides to use the secret information they overheard and invest everything they own into stocks.

Then they hear how the other two shareholders of the bugged company discuss that they want to lower the stock prize of
the actual stock (that they've bought) and to do that they will murder Mr. Low. So, these policemen gets even more entangled
as they decide to save Mr. Low's life and to stop the hired killers from snuffing him, and to stop the stock prize from falling.
Zhang Jing Chu plays Johnny's mistress and Kelvin's wife, and Michael Wong plays the Tycoon and Bad Guy.

In the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster Hit the actors return, but in new roles and not connected to the original film.
Sean Lau Ching Wan plays Mr. Manson Law, an analyzer of the financial markets at Man Sang Securities, and he
suspects that he is under surveillance, but by whom ? The answer is by someone named Joe (Daniel Wu) who
thinks that Law can lead him to someone called Tony. Louis Koo plays secret agent Captain Jack Ho.

Overheard 3 (Sit ting fung wan 3) 2014 Direction and script: Alan Mak & Felix Chong

Another sequel and with the actors in new roles with new names, except Daniel Wu that's named Joe this time too.
Not an insider trading financial thriller this time but with a plot about property developers in the HK New Territories.

Hong Kong is growing and the area "New Territories" needs to be developed with housing. The "native" inhabitants
are granted s.c. "Ding Houses" but as most of them are too poor to actually build anything on their granted lots
people with money, property developers, are buying up the Ding House grants on the cheap to build luxury high-rise
buildings with costly apartments for rich tenants.

Uncle To (Kenneth Tsang) is an investor millionaire and with a bunch of underlings, as Luk Kam-Keung (Lau Ching
Wan) doing his bidding they could be mob related. The New Territory Land Project is about to be listed on the stock
exchange and everything looks bright for Uncle To and his men, but ....
they are wire-tapped by someone named Joe (Daniel Wu) and the out of jail ex-member of To's gang, Law Wing-Jau
(Louis Koo) may have his own agenda. As the peasant woman and widow Moon we get to see the great Zhou Xun.

I found this property development thriller with Gangsters vs. Gangsters to be slightly better than "Overheard 2".
