Mohenjo Daro (2016)

India Reliance Entertainment Blu-ray

Bollywood epic spectacle in the same vein as The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur about the ancient Indus civilization
in the Indus valley and the city of Mohenjo Daro. The place: Prehistoric India, north west region year 2016 BC.
The director: Asutosh Gowariker, the man behind films as Lagaan and Swades, and the music: A.R. Rahman again.
Interesting stuff really as i love history and i vaguely remember when learning in school about the early civilizations of man
rising up from the rich soil at the riverbeds of the Nile, the Eufrat-Tigris and the Indus.
But while the Egyptian hieroglyphics and the Sumerian cuneiform writing has been deciphered, the Sindhu script of the
Indus civilization is still undeciphered. Is it a language or just signs/symbols? Interesting stuff to read about. Thanks wiki.
In this film they talk Sindhi in the beginning, but maybe that is just made up and bogus? In a dance number they sing in an
array of ancient languages, ha, that's original and cool.

Hrithik Roshan plays the role of a farmer living in the vicinity of the city Mohenjo Daro, and in the beginning he fights the
probably extinct CGI-Croc, a weird looking creature, and dreams about a CGI-Unicorn and a CGI-City. The City, in his
dream is Mohenjo Daro and it looks great in CGI but the poor CGI animals doesn't look that great though. It's really,
really hard making good looking animals in CGI and almost impossible. Well, enough of complaining as the animals are
only in the film for some seconds but the City in most of the movie. Mohenjo Daro looks great and a bit Babylonian.

Sarman (Roshan) travels to the city to sell his family's stuff on the market, things like lapis lazuli and okarinas made out of
clay. He immediately confronts Moonja (Arunoday Singh) the evil son of the city's ruler, the evil Maham (Kabir Bedi)
and fall in love with the hot priestess, Chaani (Pooja Hegde).
The naive hero Sarman sees the multiple murder victims of cruel Maham and says to his friend: "Humans attacking animals
for survival, this i've seen ... but humans killing humans, this i've never seen nor heard of". The last is a bit hard to believe
when seing Hrithik Roshan's Sarman expertly killing his enemies in the next scene.
Naive, Yes, but strong, and soon Sarman has to fight for his survival and this take place at the arena in a great fighting
scene against a couple of cannibalistic giants. Hrithik as a really early gladiator long before Spartacus used the trident

A mildly engaging but great looking big budgeted historic piece of epic spectacle fluff. Before India as we know it ....
there was Mohenjo Daro said the poster. Hrithik and Kabir Bedi was good but the cutie, Pooja Hegde, was bad
