I'm not sure what i was expecting, maybe some trashy
exploitation as this was a 1985 Spanish horror-thriller ?
But what i got was even better (yes, i'm a fan of Spanish Trash cinema
made in the 1970's and 1980's), what I
got was a quite well made and finely acted film and made on a lowbudget
Action Thriller (maybe also a horror).
The film about a Doctor, Alejandro Lieman (Patxi
Andión) travelling to the Spanish outback, and country
village/town to start his new job as the village doctor.
He can't help notice that the area swarms with armed
men, hunters, and that the village is run by the very
unlikeable Don Gonzales Cruz (Augustín
Gonzales). The women, as young Ana (Yolanda Ventura) and her
big sister Marta (Beatriz Elorrieta, the sister of the director) likes
the handsome city doctor, but the local
men, most of them underlings to Don, do not and behaves very aggressive
and harasses the doctor.
He soon understands that some secret and nasty things
are going on in the village/town and what really
happened in May 1978 ? A robbery going wrong ? Will the doctor be the
man who finally flushes away the
filth and makes the town clean ?
Spanish legend of genre film Aldo Sambrell
can be seen in a small role as an underling to Don Gonzales.
The film isn't gory but the shoot-outs looked great with squibs making
blood spatter. Aah, yes, the also
legendary actress Lola Gaos (1921-1993)
can be seen briefly as Enriqueta the Bar owner. Almost always
she could be seen in small parts (as in Luis Buñuel's Viridiana)
and with a face hard to forget.
Severin presents the film in widescreen 1.66:1 ratio
and with spanish audio mono and with english subtitles
Plays region all. Extras: Night of Rage: Interview with director Javier
Elorrieta, who also wrote the theme song
"Oh Lord" (20 minutes in spanish with english subs) and a
Trailer
(I would've loved more extras as I know very little about spanish films
during the 1980's, the genre films)
The film was shot in Jadraque and Lupiana in the Guadalajara
region (and in Segovia says the director)
